Although the OK Dinghy Class Rules leave relatively little scope for variation in hull shape, every area where performance could be optimised has been carefully considered. The result is a boat that combines proven design principles with modern manufacturing techniques to deliver a highly consistent and competitive racing package.
The hull has been designed by Dan Leech, whose designs have won multiple OK Dinghy World Championships. Working closely with Dan Slater throughout the development programme, the objective was not only to maximise performance within the class rules, but also to produce a boat that is forgiving, well balanced and easy for a wide range of sailors to sail consistently fast.
The hull retains the low fore-and-aft rocker that has become a hallmark of successful Leech designs, while incorporating refinements to the hull sections and ergonomics developed through extensive testing and feedback from OK sailors.
Particular attention has been given to the cockpit layout and side-tank geometry. Following testing with sailors of different sizes, the boat has been designed to provide a comfortable hiking position and good control across a wide range of conditions, helping sailors maintain speed without compromising comfort.
The centreboard and rudder have also been redesigned, with the foil package developed using modern design and manufacturing techniques. The centreboard operates within a tapered case to minimise water ingress and ensure a precise fit, while the rudder geometry has been optimised to provide balanced, predictable handling.
Like all Element 6 boats, the E6 OK Evolution is built using modern composite construction with epoxy resin, glass fibre and foam core materials. Precision CNC-manufactured tooling and digitally cut structural components ensure every hull is produced with an exceptionally high level of consistency.
Element 6 has built its reputation on producing high-quality one-design racing boats, including the ILCA, Olympic Nacra 17 and the Switch One Design. The same emphasis on accuracy, repeatability and quality has been applied throughout the development of the E6 OK Evolution.
The E6 OK Evolution will be available from December 2026, giving sailors the opportunity to train and compete in the new boat ahead of the 2027 OK Dinghy World Championship, to be held at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, Thailand, in February.
Throughout the period from December until the conclusion of the World Championship, boats will be available for both charter and purchase, allowing sailors to train, compete and, if they wish, take delivery of their boat after the event. Worldwide delivery will also be available following the championship.
