Great Britain, Inland Chamionship 2005

Oxford Sailing Club

October 1-2

Report by Daniel Ager

Northampton Sailing Club hosted 25 OKs for the class inland championships over the 1st and 2nd October. Three races were held on the first day in a blustery and shifty wind which gradually veered throughout the day.

In the first race Jon Fish started at the pin end and controlled the race from the front to finish ahead of Dan Ager and Terry Curtis. Ian Harris led from the start of the second race, a lead he briefly lost but was able to regain when preparing to round the leeward mark the wrong way. He held on to his lead from Ager and Curtis once again. In the third race of the day Curtis and Ager pulled away. Ager leading for most of the way with Curtis taking the lead on the final run which he held on the short final beat.

Conditions for the second day were lighter with bigger shifts. Fish nailed the start of the in the first race of the day and looked to have a safe lead but Curtis caught him passed him and went on to get his second win of the event. Fish made no mistake in the next race winning by some distance from John Meadowcroft. Going into the final race Curtis was leading overall with Fish and Ager level on points needing to win the race with another boat between the winner and Curtis to win overall. However it was not to be. Mike Edwards won a close race from Meadowcroft and Alex Scoles. Curtis discarding his fifth place to leave him Inland Champion for the second year running.
